Utrecht 3-seater sofa with curved back. Designed 1927, manufactured and licensed by Cassina in the late 20th century. Solid wood frame, polyurethane/polyester upholstery. Wool fabric.
Taking inspo from the fashion scene and its epic ability to boost a strong personal vision, this art piece dives into the contrast between fitting in and belonging. Fitting in revolves around adapting oneself to gain acceptance while belonging demands that we stay true to ourselves. The navy blue is like society’s expectations, and the big blanket stitching shouts out that we’re not playing by the rules.
The left armrest features unruly blanket stitching stating 1927 (MCMXXVII) in Roman numerals, while the right armrest displays 2021 (MMXXI).
